Valve Stem Seals & Valve Seals

MATERIAL CHOICES

Valve stem seals are made from a variety of materials:

• Nylon
• PTFE rubber
• Nitrile rubber
• Polyacrylate rubber
• Viton® rubber

Viton is the best material currently available for use in many of today’s hotter-running engines, particularly the smaller domestic and imported models. It is often combined with a “metal jacket” or covering that totally surrounds the Viton positive seal. Viton offers excellent resistance to both heat (up to 450 F) and abrasion, and is the material of choice for most Fel-Pro valve stem seals.

I did search on around on the forum, and other forums...but most of the guidance is around 5yrs old and I hoped someone may have been grappling with this decision more recently and can share some advise of which vss to go with? Thanks!

This was the newest thread I could find on the topic of which valve stem seals to go with on my '06 4.8is. I see that most manufacturers are now making these with red inners/black outer seals. However, I did find this outlier selling out of Germany.
